Affinion Group’s Data Breach and ID Theft Protection Businesses

July 1st, 2009

Affinion, established in July 2005, is an exclusively held firm operated by the Apollo Management private equity group. The firm’s assets came from Cendant Corporation, currently known as Avis Budget Group. Affinion is comprised of subsidiaries including Affinion International, Affinion Loyalty Group, Trilegiant Corporation (TLG), Progeny Marketing Innovations and Affinion Security Center.

The Group provides a package of credit tracking, data breach and ID theft protection services by means of the company’s Affinion Security Center. Founded in 2008, it received substantial backing with the purchase of CardCops in 2007. CardCops is a technology business that utilizes advanced tools to track public records and foreign online chat rooms, where ID thieves spread themselves by buying and selling personal details. When Affinion analysts identify private information like debit and credit card account numbers, Social Security numbers, PIN numbers, mother’s maiden name or other kinds of risked data, consumers are notified and asked to take action in protecting themselves from probably fraudulence and identity theft.

Affinion has been an influential group that actively takes part in the discovery of large scale information breach activities and the firm’s opinion is always given importance since Affinion is considered an expert when it comes to matters like this.
