Things to Consider when Purchasing Curtains

August 4th, 2009

Curtains are both decorative and functional. They provide functionality by offering privacy, insulation for sun and cold and help reduce glare or light if needed. There are pre-made curtains for many of these functions, such as insulated curtains to help keep heat out in the summer and the cold out in the winter. There are also room darken curtains that help keep out the light or the glare of the sun. As for being decorative, this is what most people think about when it comes to curtains. Curtains can make a statement in the room or bring all your elements together. There are a multitude of fabrics, colors, prints and styles to choose from. Things to think about when picking out your curtains are, what style of furniture do you have, what are the wall colors, what function/functions will they serve, what type of look am I going for, will you use pre-made or make it your self and what is my budget. These are just a few of the things to consider when looking at purchasing curtains. Today you can complete just about any look on just about any type of budget thanks to synthetic materials and discount stores. You can also save a lot if you can sew, by either customizing for size, shape or even making them from scratch. If this is the case then the possibilities are just about endless as are your choices in fabric and accessories. If not then you will simply be limited by your budget, but as previously stated you can still get similar looks for a fraction of the price, if you shop around and are willing to go with less expensive faux materials instead of the real thing. So be creative, see what type of look you can achieve.
